Anvil Introduces Organic Cotton T-shirts
2007-04-13 14:11:18
MARCH 19, 2007 -- Anvil Knitwear has launched a line of 100% organic cotton T-shirts. According to the company, its AnvilOrganic brand will be available in 10 colors in sizes XS-4XL. The 5-ounce shirts feature shoulder-to-shoulder tape and double-needle sleeve and bottom hem. "Organic apparel is no longer a fad: It's a trend, and there is sufficient long-term demand to justify taking it mainstream at prices that are attractive to the overall market," says Anthony Corsano, CEO the New York-based Anvil. Corsano says the organic line's price point and wide range of colors and sizes should encourage purchasing by companies that previously found the cost of organic apparel prohibitive. AnvilOrganic T-shirts are produced from cotton grown without pesticides or chemical fertilizers and colored using organic dyes, which means they will be certified organic, says the company. According to the Organic Trade Association's 2006 Manufacturer Survey, sales of organic fiber products (linens and clothing) in the United States grew 44% to $160 million in 2005.
